Metering System

What is a metering system?

If you’re looking for precise and reliable dosing of your materials, a metering system might be your best bet. Metering systems are used to control, measure, and disperse bulk solids in a production line. Metering systems are sometimes referred to as flow meters, flow measurement devices or mass flowmeters and can be found in many industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and mineral production plants. Metering systems are designed based on the type of process needed for your plant.

What are the types of flow meters?

There are many ways to measure the flow of your product. The flow meter you choose greatly depends on what your requirements for measurement are (including the accuracy requirement) and where within your process you would like to perform the measurement.

What materials are used in metering?

A metering system can be used with virtually any bulk solid or powder material including:

  • raw, unprocessed ore and mine tailings
  • dusty powders and chemicals including Calcium Carbonate, Ammonium Sulfate, powdered lime and more
  • Recycled materials such as asphalt, crushed glass, plastic bottles, plastic bags
  • Foods such as grain, corn, soy, etc

What are examples of uses for metering equipment?

Common uses for metering equipment include:

  • measuring plastic pellets as silos are being filled
  • controlling the amount of frac sand that is used during oil extraction.
  • blending multiple ingredients according to a recipe
  • adding additives onto chips or cereals
  • batching the correct amount of malted barley or hops for beer production
  • measuring of extremely abrasive silica or sand for the manufacture of glass products

The advantages of metering systems

Metering systems are one of the best investments for companies looking to reach maximum efficiency. Automating key processes in your production process can ensure your company remains competitive. When properly designed and implemented, conveying systems can help cut costs, improve productivity, and reduce human error. Advantages of conveying systems include:

  • Lower Production Time
  • Increase Productivity
  • Retain Product Quality
  • Cost Saving
  • Less Spillage & Dust
  • Leakage
  • Better Sanitation
